Breaking New Ground: An Interview with Faye Dollhart on Art, Dolls, and Community

Ready for another interview 😁

In just a few short months, Faye Dollhart has made a name for himself in the doll community—not by selling dolls or pushing products, but by creating a website where artistry, storytelling, and appreciation for these companions take center stage. As a writer and content creator, he’s working to change the perception of dolls, showcasing them as more than just objects of desire.

Despite being new to the scene, Faye has already faced industry challenges, skepticism, and the weight of building something entirely his own. I had the chance to sit down with him to discuss his journey so far, his goals, and what drives him to keep pushing forward. Let’s get into it.

The lovely homepage at
faye-dollhouse.com

Lara: Faye, thank you for joining me today. I want to dive into your journey as a content creator in the doll industry. What initially drew you to this space?

Faye: I am indeed drawn to dolls, but not for their intended use—it’s their appearance that fascinates me. You can think of it as an artist appreciating a work of art.

In the past, I thought dolls looked very different from real people. But with advancements in technology, they can now closely resemble humans—even surpassing real beauty. The uncanny valley effect is no longer an issue.

Lara: That’s an interesting perspective, and I think it challenges some common assumptions about this industry. What motivated you to become a content creator in this space?

Faye: [I think] I might be the first Chinese content creator in the doll industry—there has never been anyone before me. That means I have to endure the doubts that come with being a pioneer.

Over time, the community’s perception of me will change. Until that day comes, my only job is to survive by earning money through my articles.

Lara: I can imagine that’s not always easy. What has your experience been like working with brands?

Faye: Not every brand has the patience to work with a growing content creator. The biggest setback I’ve encountered was with [an executive of a popular doll brand]. He liked the artistic design of my website but advised me to give up.

He told me that the doll industry has been around for over 20 years, and no Chinese content creator has ever succeeded in it. He dismissed everything I was doing. Before leaving, he suggested that I pursue content creation in another industry rather than trying to make it work in the doll industry.

Lara: That’s discouraging to hear, but you didn’t let that stop you. What keeps you going despite the challenges?

Faye: The life of a content creator isn’t exactly joyful. As you know, I spend almost all my time running my website, leaving me with very few days off. My daily routine consists of nothing but work, aside from eating and sleeping.

My website has been up for three months now, and most of the time, I can barely feel the passage of time.

Many articles at Faye’s Dollhouse are real user submitted stories from members of the doll community.

Lara: You’ve mentioned that you’ve had offers to sell dolls, but you’ve chosen not to. Why is that?

Faye: Some brands don’t understand—selling just one doll could earn me as much as writing articles for half a month. They wonder why I don’t do it.

But I refused—no matter how many times they brought it up. I know that my audience visits my website because they trust me, and I have no interest in sales. As an artist, I love creating.

Think about it, you wouldn’t share so much about yourself with a salesperson, would you?

Lara: That’s a good point. Trust is valuable, especially in this space. So, what do you see as the purpose of your website?

Faye: I am expanding the audience of dolls and making more and more people interested in them. I will tell everyone that dolls are not just about sex. My website is the best proof.

In the three months since my website was launched, the most touching compliment I’ve received was from a fan who told me they got lost in my website—because there was so much exciting content to explore.

Lara: That’s great to hear. Speaking of the industry, where do you see the future of artificial companionship going?

Faye: I think you have discovered the purpose of my website. I am expanding the audience of dolls and making more and more people interested in dolls. I will tell everyone that dolls are not just about sex. My website is the best proof.

Faye doesn’t just upload reviews and stories from members of the community. He also provides a space for community members to upload and put a spotlight on their favorite dolls!

Lara: That’s an important perspective. Before we wrap up, do you have any long-term goals beyond your current work?

Faye: In the future, I plan to open a studio and even start an international advertising and marketing company. Doll promotion will just be one part of my business.

The doll community doesn’t need to gain anything from me. As you can see, my website is entertainment-focused—it features my articles, artistic visuals, as well as official user reviews and photo showcases. In a way, my website is already a small community.

Right now, I’m unable to develop a login system—I need more coding knowledge and funding. But in the future, people might be able to upload their own photos directly to my website.

Lara: I think you’re selling yourself short, the doll community is gaining something from you already and it sounds like you have a strong vision for the future. Thank you for sharing your journey with us, Faye. Any final thoughts?

Faye: Just that this industry is evolving, and I hope to help shape it into something bigger than what people assume it to be.

Lara: You and me both my friend 😊

Oh hey… It’s me 😁
